How long is an appointment?

The initial assessment lasts 50-60 minutes, but each subsequent session will be 45-50 minutes. The other 10-15 minutes is designated for typing up notes and providing the necessary resources for you.

What is the therapy portal?

Dr. Royal uses the therapy portal to provide necessary documentation within a HIPAA compliant software. The client can communicate and receive resources through this portal. It requires you to create an account, but has everything you need in one place. Your information will never been shared.

How often should I come to counseling?

It all depends on you and your situation, however, Dr. Royal would suggest to come once a week for a while to build a healthy rapport, and then depending on the situation, reassessing how often one should come back.

What is your counseling approach?

Dr. Royal offers what is called an eclectic approach to counseling. She will utilize whichever treatment perspective is best suited for each client. Her primary intervention strategies include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), trauma focused CBT, person-centered and solution focused.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, Dr. Royal is credentialed with the following insurances: Aetna, Cigna, Optum, UnitedHealthcare, UnitedHealthcare Shared Services (UHSS), GEHA- UnitedHealthcare Shared Services (UHSS), UnitedHealthcare Global, UnitedHealthcare Exchange Plans (ONEX), Oscar, Harvard Pilgrim, Oxford, UHC Student Resources, UMR, All Savers (UHC), Health Plans Inc. and Surest (Formerly Bind). She is currently working on getting credentialed with Blue Cross Blue Shield as well.
